asbestos survey - common questionsÂ
Is an asbestos survey a legal requirement?Â
For commercial and public buildings built before 2000, a management survey is a legal requirement under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. Duty holders such as building owners and employers are responsible for managing asbestos in their premises. A refurbishment and demolition survey is also legally required before any building or renovation work takes place.

How long does an asbestos survey take?Â
A management survey for a typical domestic property can usually be completed within a couple of hours. Larger commercial or industrial premises will take longer depending on size and complexity. Laboratory results for any samples taken are usually returned within 3 to 5 working days. Remion offers fast turnaround times on all survey reports.

What happens after an asbestos survey?Â
Once the survey is complete you will receive a full written report detailing the location, type and condition of any asbestos-containing materials found, along with a recommended action plan. If removal is required, Remion can manage the entire process from survey through to removal and certification.

Do I need an asbestos survey when buying a house?Â
There is no legal requirement for a residential asbestos survey when buying a house, but it is strongly recommended for any property built before 2000. An asbestos survey gives you peace of mind and means you are fully informed about any ACMs before committing to a purchase or planning any renovation work.
